Funds Raised For Area Food Shelf
The employees of Gislason & Hunter LLP hosted a lunch on March 26 where cash donations were accepted and the law firm matched the dollars collected. The donation totaling $1,108 was presented to Sharon Sanford of the New Ulm Area Emergency Food Shelf.

Gislason & Hunter LLP Is Pleased To Announce That David Hoelmer Has Joined The Firm As An Of Counsel Attorney
David comes to Gislason & Hunter with extensive experience acquired from a 34-year career with AgStar where he also served as General Counsel of AgStar since the early 1990s. During that time, he also served on Governor Tim Pawlenty's Livestock Advisory Task Force. He worked closely with a variety of Ag organizations in seeking passage of laws related to agriculture in Minnesota. He is also a CLE lecturer on agricultural issues.
Mr. Hoelmer is a graduate of Minnesota State University - Mankato, magna cum laude, and from William Mitchell College of Law.
He also serves on a variety of professional boards, which include: Farm Credit Legislative Committees in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and on the national level; a board member of the Minnesota Association of Cooperatives and its successor organization Cooperative network; and a board member of 40 Square Cooperative Solutions, a farmer's health care cooperative.
Mr. Hoelmer will be focusing his practice on business development activities for the firm with the agriculture and business industries.
Marlin Kunard Honored For 50 Years Of Service
Gislason & Hunter attorney Marlin Kunard is being honored by the Minnesota State Bar Association for 50 years of legal service. A dinner will be held on Thursday, April 26 with Supreme Court Justice Lorie Gildea serving as master of ceremonies.
Marlin is graduate of St. Olaf College and Northwestern University School of Law. He began his career as an Assistant County Attorney before moving into private practice where he specializes in estate planning and trust issues. Many of his clients have been with him through the decades and he is now working with the second and third generation of those families.
In his career, he has received awards for distinguished service on the Minnesota State Bar Association's Board of Governors and an award for professional contribution to the Minnesota Continuing Legal Education. Kunard was selected to the list of Minnesota Super Lawyers by Law & Politics in 1999 and 2000, and was appointed a Special Municipal Judge for North Mankato.
Attorney A.R. Pfau III served as Marlin's mentor and provided some sound advice, "keep your shoes shined and read a little Shakespeare every day."

Dustan Cross Recertified As Civil Trial Law Specialist
The Minnesota State Bar Association announces the recertification of Dustan J Cross of Gislason & Hunter LLP as an MSBA Board-Certified Trial Law Specialist. The certified specialist designation is earned by leading attorneys who have completed a rigorous approval process, including an examination in the specialty area, peer review and documented experience. Certified attorneys have demonstrated superior knowledge, skill and integrity in their specific field.
Gislason & Hunter Hosts Ag Law Panel At Drake Law School
Six attorneys from Gislason & Hunter participated in an educational panel at Drake Agricultural Law Center for agricultural law students on Feb. 13, 2012, in Des Moines, Iowa.
The center is internationally recognized for providing opportunities to study how the legal system shapes our food system and influences the ability of the agricultural sector to produce market and utilize agricultural products. The Drake Law School supports an array of courses, publications, conferences and research initiatives, and created a certification program in food and agricultural law. Students learn about legal issues involving the full scope of food and agriculture, including marketing and finance; biotechnology; international trade; tax planning; soil and water conservation; land use and environmental issues; food safety and federal farm programs. The center also hosts international law scholars to study food and agricultural law and policy in the U.S.
For over 75 years, the law firm of Gislason & Hunter has worked closely with the agriculture industry to represent the constituency in issues impacting the local family farm to large international agricultural entities. The attorneys participating on the Ag law panel all have an extensive background in agriculture law. The majority of those participating grew up on farms. Topics covered by the panel included:

Daryn McBeth the Executive Director of AgriGrowth and a graduate of the Drake Agricultural Law Center was also a member of the panel. Daryn provided an overview of his previous work as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., for the Ag industry and his current work with AgriGrowth, a trade group for all agricultural associations.
A reception followed the panel event allowing students time to ask questions and network with the attorneys.
