NEW ULM, Minn. (June 29, 2007) - Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services (SMRLS), a local legal aid program that provides legal assistance to the poor with civil legal problems, selected
attorney Dan Gislason as the 2007 recipient o the Fifth Judicial District Pro Bono Award. SMRLS honored him at a reception on June 29 at the Brown County Courthouse. The award is sponsored by the Minnesota State Bar Association.
Gislason has been instrumental in the success of SMRLS' "Do it Yourself" divorce clinics in south central Minnesota. In addition to volunteering his time at the clinics, Gislason has been an active mentor to law students assisting at the clinics. Gislason is also a volunteer who handles contested family law cases. He has been spearheading SMRLS efforts to make Mediation and Early Neutral Evaluation (ENE) available to SMRLS' low-income clients through additional funding and the use of volunteers. He also serves as a volunteer mediator. For years, he has helped raise money to fund SMRLS services. Most recently he took on the responsibility for SMRLS' Campaign for Legal Aid solicitations in Brown County. Gislason has practiced in New Ulm for more than 35 years. He is a senior attorney at Gislason & Hunter, LLP. He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 1969. He is admitted to the Minnesota State Courts, the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. |
