NEW ULM , Minn. (April 13, 2007) — The Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) Civil Litigation Section has selected attorney Daniel A. Gislason to receive the Advocate Award. The award is the group’s highest honor and is presented annually to an individual who has made a significant contribution to improving the civil justice system in Minnesota. Gislason will be honored at the group’s annual meeting on April 18, 2007. A well-known litigator, Gislason is based in the New Ulm office of Gislason & Hunter, a regional civil litigation and commercial transaction firm. He works in the firm’s Trial Practice area representing defendants and plaintiffs, as well as the Family Law Practice area. He serves as a statewide mediator of matters involving civil litigation and family law. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, an associate of the American Board of Trial Advocates, and a member of the International Academy of Mediators. Gislason received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 1969. He is admitted to the Minnesota State Courts, the U.S. District Court, District of Minnesota, and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. The factors considered by the Civil Litigation Section to determine the award winner are whether the nominee contributed to structural improvements in the civil litigation system, advanced the cause of under-represented groups, and demonstrated a commitment to the civil litigation system over years of service without receiving any recognition.
